| Thank you for inquiring about your wedding ceremony at The Congregational Church in Killingworth, United Church of Christ. This is such a very important day - a day that you will treasure for your entire life. The Congregational Church in Killingworth has a long and proud history here in the community of Killingworth.
All arrangements regarding your wedding service should be made with the Pastor of the church. The Pastor will provide counseling prior to your wedding and will perform the ceremony. If our Pastor is not available, we will locate a minister ordained in the United Church of Christ (UCC.) Only UCC clergy or clergy whose denomination we are in communion with are permitted to perform weddings at The Congregational Church in Killingworth. It is important that you set the date and time of the wedding (and rehearsal, if required) far in advance. Dates cannot be confirmed before we have received a $50.00 non-returnable deposit and discussed your wedding plans with the Pastor.
Premarital Interviews
Both the bride and the groom will be expected to meet with the Pastor
for three premarital interviews prior to the wedding. Please call
the church office at (860) 663-1789 to arrange the first appointment.
Music
The music for the service should be appropriate for the occasion. Please contact our organist, Carolyn Engle, through the church office as soon as possible and let her know whether or not you would like her to play at your wedding so that she can plan her schedule. The music should be arranged with the organist at least 45 days prior to the wedding. If you are interested in a soloist, our organist can provide you with names of competent singers/instrumentalists for you to contact. Fees for a soloist are not included with the organist's fees. Her fee includes a consultation of the music with the couple, which may be in person, over the phone, or by email. There is a $75.00 organist fee for each rehearsal; again, there may be additional fees for any soloist or instrumentalist. If the wedding starts at least 20 minutes late, there will be an additional charge of $50.00. If you would like to use your own organist/pianist, you must speak with our organist first to arrange this.
Flower Arrangements
Most couples have one arrangement on the Communion Table, or two
arrangements, one on either side of the pulpit. The flowers may be
left at the church for the worship service the following Sunday,
or taken to the reception. Please notify the church office, at least
a month in advance, whether or not you plan to leave the flowers
for Sunday with correct spelling of names to be printed in the worship
bulletin.
Photographs
Photographs are an important part of your personal journey together.
We know that you want them; we also know, from past experiences,
that they can be an intrusion into the service of worship. Therefore,
we suggest that you speak to the photographer about the rules of
the church with regard to photo taking:
a. Photos may be taken before or after the service.
b. During the service, photos may be taken from the
rear of the church.
c. We will be happy to have you take formal photos
in front of the church following the service.
d. In any case, we ask you to request that the photographer
speak with the minister before the wedding
Wedding Bulletins
If wedding bulletins are desired – and agreed
upon with the minister – we can make them up for you in the
church office (see fee schedule) or you may have them done elsewhere.
Video Tapes
Videotapes of the service are allowed from the balcony only. However,
lights and microphones are not permitted. We suggest that you inform
the videographer, and have the lighting and a sound check in the
sanctuary previewed before the wedding.
Pew Bows
Pew bows are allowed; but may only be attached to the brown, varnished
sections of the pews – not to the white painted surfaces.
Please use only masking tape or plastic clips (obtained from
a florist) to secure the bows to the pews.
Candles
Altar candles will be provided by the church. Wedding candles or
candelabra candles, if desired, are allowed. Wedding candles
must be provided by the bride and groom. If candelabras are used,
arrangements must be made with the Flower Committee of the church,
through the church office. The Flower Committee will provide
the candles (see fee schedule) which you may take with you after
the service. At the wedding rehearsal, you are asked to place
the candelabra where you want them and choose the appropriate
height. The Flower Committee will take care of it from that point.
